Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
