The families of young people lost after a deadly blaze at a venue in a Swiss winter destination are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their loved ones online.

The inferno ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Circulated images reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Officials have indicated that it could take an extended period to identify the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and hurt another 119. Authorities said on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been identified, with the process continuing to identify the final individuals.

In the meantime, relatives have been posting on social media to request information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.

Appeals for the Unaccounted For

The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his parent.

"A close friend told me they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
